Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo is the woman of surrealism.  Frida was born in 1907.  She grew up in Mexico City and was a female painter of the early twentieth century.  Most of her paintings were self portraits.  They resembled her sexuality and a lot of her pain. Frida had a uni brow to represent the female image other than the object of male desire.  When Frida was 18 years old, she got into a very bad bus crash.  This bought a lot of pain into her life and therefore she was disabled and had an amputated leg.  However, this also bought Frida a lot of free time to paint.  This is when she was able to bring her art work into society and become famous.  Frida took her career to a further step and wanted to be well known.  She met with a famous painter, Diego Rivera, who she quickly fell in love with.  After a short period of time they got married however their marriage had its ups and downs.  Frida went on with drawing her famous portraits until she died in 1954.  I can say this movie has inspired me in many different ways.  This movie shows how one women suffered through her whole life with many different hardships and battles and was still able to be one of the most best female painters alive.  It amazed me how she was so open with her sexuality.  The famous painting that Frida painted was called The Broken Column.  This painting shows the suffering of her 30 surgeries from her bus crash and her amputated leg.  The column that is broken inside of her is showing how one strong women was able to be broken into pieces.  The column represents strength.  I was very glad to learn about her and her amazing artwork that has truly inspired me into being a strong person.

Never Back Down

Over the weekend I saw the movie called Never Back Down. This movie was about a teenager named Jake who recently moved to a new town in Tampa, Florida where the kids were harsh and brutal fighters. The character managed to get beat up and get hurt badly but decided to learn how to fight and learn it well. He worked day and night to become one of the towns best fighters with a lot skill and determination. While learning how to fight he also learned how to contain his anger and his self hatetred for the people that he wanted to hurt. This movie truly showed what hard work and effort could do. I learned that a person could do whatever they have to do know matter what the challange is as long as they work hard enough for it. The movie taught me that with strengh and discpline any goal no matter how hard it may seem to reach can be reached. Overall this was a great movie that truly defined determanation and self reliance with oneself. This movie has also inspired me to never give up and to keep fighting for what you want.

The Metamorphosis

The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, is probably the most amazing piece of literature I have ever read.  It's about a man named Gregor Samsa who is a traveling salesman.  Gregor hates his job however he works to support his family.  Gregor is responsible for paying off his father's debts.  One day Gregor wakes up and notices that he has turned into a giant insect.  Gregor mostly doesn't care about him turning into a bug, but cares more about how he will go to work.  This just shows that Gregor's life is simple and he is unnoticed.  "Some critics believe that Gregor is insane, and only believes he has turned into an insect."  I agree with this because I feel that Kafka is trying to relate his life to someone's life where they are unnoticed and alone.  His family doesn't care about him unless he provides money to the family.  The one thing that bothered me the most was his family and how they didn't care.  Instead of trying to be there for him and helping him out, they basically were trying to find a way to get rid of him.  All they worried about was who was going to work and pay for their family.  My reaction towards the end of the book was upsetting.  I can say I saw the death of Gregor coming, however I was hoping he would wake up from a dream.  I also thought that this would be a shock to his family and maybe they would regret everything that has happened.  This could have thought them a lesson however they were happy that he was gone and went out to party. Overall, I thought that this novella was astounding.  It made me want to continue on reading and find out what will happen next.  I've never read a book so unrealistic.  I believe that people should be independent upon themselves and never judge anything.

Destruction of the Economy

A lot of people are saying that the economy is headed for the worst. I believe that our economy is also heading in the wrong direction because of all the irresponsible people that where abusing the economy in all sorts of ways. Today is the effect of those people and what they did. I believe this is something very important because I hope that us as a nation makes the same mistakes twice as we did in the past to put ourselves in the position that we are in now. I choose to write about this topic because I believe it is a very important one and something that a lot of people do not really think about, how we got in this mess. Do to this economy and this crisis a lot of hard working Americans are loosing jobs and this is something that is going to affect numerous amounts of people. People are not going to be able to provide themselves with basic things they need such as food and shelter. Also many stores are having big sales because stores need to make money. If this is the case it will cause a economic depression similar to the one in the 1930’s. I believe that there are people out there that have still not realized what is going on.  People should open up there eyes and try to save the world by not wasting money and fix their mistakes that they have made.
