Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo is the woman of surrealism. Frida was born in 1907. She grew up in Mexico City and was a female painter of the early twentieth century. Most of her paintings were self portraits. They resembled her sexuality and a lot of her pain. Frida had a uni brow to represent the female image other than the object of male desire. When Frida was 18 years old, she got into a very bad bus crash. This bought a lot of pain into her life and therefore she was disabled and had an amputated leg. However, this also bought Frida a lot of free time to paint. This is when she was able to bring her art work into society and become famous. Frida took her career to a further step and wanted to be well known. She met with a famous painter, Diego Rivera, who she quickly fell in love with. After a short period of time they got married however their marriage had its ups and downs. Frida went on with drawing her famous portraits until she died in 1954. I can say this movie has inspired me in many different ways. This movie shows how one women suffered through her whole life with many different hardships and battles and was still able to be one of the most best female painters alive. It amazed me how she was so open with her sexuality. The famous painting that Frida painted was called The Broken Column. This painting shows the suffering of her 30 surgeries from her bus crash and her amputated leg. The column that is broken inside of her is showing how one strong women was able to be broken into pieces. The column represents strength. I was very glad to learn about her and her amazing artwork that has truly inspired me into being a strong person.
